We are expanding our Emergency Department (ED) at UAB Hospital to serve the needs of our patients — and you can be part of what’s next. As Alabama’s first Level I Adult Trauma Center designated by the American College of Surgeons, our Emergency Department team delivers compassionate, immediate care for critically ill or injured adult patients with round-the-clock access to world-class specialists.

New Graduate Nurse Opportunities & Support

As one of the largest emergency departments in the country, this expansion will increase our footprint to 115+ treatment and triage spaces, more than doubling our capacity. Included is a 30-bed inpatient observation unit designed to improve patient flow.

The expansion was designed with staff input, and will have new equipment and features, including:
 
  • Dedicated technology like CT scanners, X-ray machines, and echo ultrasound
  • A ceiling lift for bariatric patients to improve safety and reduce strain 
  • A streamlined teleadmission process to support faster transitions of care
  • Enhanced security for staff and patients
